Ulysses in Ithaca

Date: 25 Sep 2024 - Sezione: racconti/

Good news for the archeologists: the royal archives of Ithaca have been recently excavated, and are producing extraordinary finds. Well, most of the tablets, written in Linear-B, are of the sort “Aristocles must give a fat goat to Aristoteles, within one month” or “Philip owes a jar of olive oil to George” and so on. However, one important document has been found, which can help us to bridge an important gap in the life of Ulysses. The document is a letter written by Ulysses to Agamemnon and returned to him “because of the decease of the addressee”, as it says on the back of the envelope. I now transcribe the letter in English, which is, in a sense, a world first.
